WelcomeYour hosts Peter and Susan Greggains have lived at Lake Ohau Alpine Village since 1997. In anticipation of coming to live at Lake Ohau Susan completed a diploma in Catering, Tourism and Hospitality, majoring in catering and she enjoys creating homemade meals for her guests
Lake Ohau is situated on the border of Canterbury/Otago at the foothills of the Southern Alps and was formed by glacial retreat surrounded by alpine peaks. Inspired by the beauty and grandeur of the area we both completed diplomas in Art and Creativity through The Learning Connection concentrating on art and photography. The area with the back drop of the Southern Alps is an ideal setting for all levels of appreciation and enjoyment.
The area has many wonderful recreational opportunities including:
Fishing, Trout and Salmon in Lake Ohau and contributory rivers and within 1/2 hour drive there are many other spots including Lake Benmore, Lake Aviemore, the Ahuriri, Tekapo and Twizel Rivers and the hydro canals.
Water Sports in Lake Ohau and Lake Middleton and the other lakes and rivers, all great venues for jet boating, kayaking, sailing,water skiing and swimming.
Numerous Trails for Mountain biking, tramping, hiking, from a leisurely stroll to multi day walks and mountioneering in the foothills of the Southern Alps.
World class gliding at nearby Omarama and a choice of local scenic flights
In winter snow skiing at our doorstep at the popular and highly regarded Ohau Snow Fields and other venues within easy reach, including heli skiing opportunities.
Other top tourist destinations are within easy reach, Mount Cook, Lake Pukaki, Lake Tekapo, Wanaka, Queenstown, Arrowtown, and on the coast Oamaru and Timaru.
